Direct Speech : My mother said, "I must go to Bangkok."
Indirect Speech : My mother said (that) she had to go to Bangkok.

ข้อที่ต้องจำเพิ่มเติม
1. ถ้าใน Direct Speech มีคำหรือข้อความที่เป็นเวลาให้เปลี่ยนดังนี้
Direct Speech -> Indirect Speech
now -> then
today -> that day
yesterday -> the day before / the previous day
tonight -> that night
tomorrow -> the next day / the following day
next (week) -> the following (week)
ago -> before
last (week) -> the previous (week)
the day before yesterday -> earlier / two days before
the day after tomorrow -> later in two day's time / two days after
a year ago -> a year before / the previous year
2. ถ้าใน Direct Speech มีคำหรือข้อความที่แสดงความใกล้-ไกลให้เปลี่ยนดังนี้
Direct Speech -> Indirect Speech
here -> there
this -> that
these -> those
Direct Speech: He said, "This the house where she lives."
Indirect Speech: He said that was the house where she lived.
Direct Speech: "I can go with her tomorrow", he said
Indirect Speech: He said that he could go with her the next day.

2. Indirect  Speech แบบ Indirect Request and Command
การเปลี่ยนประโยคขอร้อง ขออนุญาต หรือคำสั่ง (Request or Command) เป็น Indirect Speech  มีวิธีการเปลี่ยน Tense คำหรือข้อความบอกเวลา และคำหรือข้อความที่บ่งบอกความใกล้-ไกล เหมือนกับ Indirect Statement แต่มีที่แตกต่างกัน คือ
(1) ใช้กริยานำ คือ tell/told (บอก), order/ordered (สั่ง), ask/asked (ขอร้อง), command/commanded (สั่ง)
(2) ใช้ (not) to เป็นตัวเชื่อม
(3) ถ้า Direct Speech ไม่มีกรรม (object) ให้เติมกรรมลงไปใน Indirect Speech ด้วย
(4) ถ้ามีคำว่า Please ให้ตัดออก

ตัวอย่าง

Direct Speech : He said, "Please don't make aloud noise."
Indirect  Speech : He told him not to make aloud noise.
(1) เปลี่ยนกริยานำจาก said เป็น told
(2) ใช้ not to เป็นตัวเชื่อมเพราะ Direct Speech เป็นปฏิเสธ (don't)
(3) เติมกรรม (him) เพราะ Direct Speech ไม่มีกรรม
(4) ตัดคำว่า Please ออก

Direct Speech : She told us, "Come to the party tomorrow."
Indirect  Speech : She told us to come to the party the following day.
(1) ใช้กริยานำว่า told เพราะ Direct Speech ใช้ told
(2) ใช้ to เป็นตัวเชื่อมเพราะ Direct Speech เป็นบอกเล่า (Come)
(3) ใช้คำว่า us เป็นกรรมเพราะ us เป็นกรรมของกริยา told อยู่แล้ว
(4) เปลี่ยน tomorrow เป็น the following day

Direct Speech : She asked her father, "Let me go to Chiangrai with Ludda."
Indirect  Speech : She asked her father to let her go to Chiangrai with Ludda.
(1) ใช้กริยานำว่า asked เพราะ Direct Speech ใช้ asked
(2) ใช้ to เป็นตัวเชื่อมเพราะ Direct Speech เป็นบอกเล่า (Let)
(3) เปลี่ยนกรรมจากคำว่า me เป็น her เพราะเป็นคำพูดของผู้หญิง (She)

Direct Speech: I said to my mother, "Please give me five baht."
Indirect Speech: I begged my mother to give me five baht.

Direct Speech: The master said to the servant, "Bring me a glass of water."
Indirect Speech: The master told the servant to bring him a glass of water.

Direct Speech: He said to the soldiers, "Stand still."
Indirect Speech: He commanded the soldiers to stand still.
