ได้แก่สาหร่ายสีแดง (red algae) มีอยู่ประมาณ 3,900 สปีชีส์

        ลักษณะสำคัญ ดังนี้
- มีคลอโรฟิลล์เอและดี แคโรทีน แซนโทฟิลล์ และ ไฟโคอิริทริน (phycoerythrin)
- อาหารสะสมเป็นแป้งมีชื่อว่า ฟลอริเดียนสตาร์ซ(floridean starch)
- ผนังเซลล์เป็นสารเซลลูโลส พอลิแซคคาไรด์ที่เป็นเมือกบางชนิดมีแคลเซียมด้วย
