Modal  Verbs  +  have  +  Verb3

1.  บอกเหตุการณ์ในอดีตซึ่งตรงข้ามความเป็นจริง

Could  +  have  +  V3                    บอกสิ่งที่ควรทำในอดีต  แต่ไม่ได้ทำ

                                                        I  could  have  lent  you  the  money.

                                                        He  could  have  sent  a  message.

Would  +  have  +  V3                  ใช้บอกความเป็นไปได้ในอดีต  แต่ความจริงไม่ได้เกิดขึ้น

                                                        I  would  have  been  glad  to  show  you                                                         around  the  city.

Should  +  have  +  V3                 แสดงสิ่งที่ควรทำในอดีต  แต่ไม่ได้ทำ

                                                       You  should  have  stopped  at  the  red  light.                                                         (but  you  don't)

                                                        You  should  not  have  talked  to  her  like                                                         that.  (but  you  did)

Ought  to  +  have  +  V3             แสดงสิ่งที่ควรทำในอดีต  แต่ไม่ได้ทำ

                                                       You  ought  to  have  told  him  about  that.                                                        (but  you  didn't)

                                                       You  oughtn't  to  have  talked  to  her  like                                                        that.  (but  you  did)

Would  rather  +  have  +  V3     อยากทำแต่ความจริงไม่ได้กระทำ  (อดีต)

                                                      We'd  rather  have  gone  to  the  baseball                                                        game.

needn't  +  have  +  V3               แสดงสิ่งที่ทำไปแล้วทั้งที่ไม่จำเป็นต้องทำ  (อดีต)

                                                      He  needn't  have  left  home  so  early.

ข้อสังเกต

didn't  have  to  =  didn't  need  to        ไม่จำเป็นต้องกระทำ  และก็ไม่ได้กระทำ(ในอดีต)

                                                                   I  didn't  have to talk  yo  him in English.

needn't  have  done                                ไม่จำเป็นต้องกระทำ  แต่ก็ทำไปแล้ว  (ในอดีต)

                                                                   I  needn't  have  to  talked  to  him  in                                                                    English.

2.  บอกการคาดคะเนกับเหตุการณ์ในอดีต

can / could / have  +  V3                         เป็นคาดคะเนเหตูการณ์ในอดีต

                                                                   Can / Could  he  have  spent  all  the                                                                     money  lasy  week?

                                                                   The  meat  we  had  last  night  caan't /                                                                     couldn't  have  been  good.

may / might / have   +  V3                        การคาดคะเนเหตุการณ์ที่ผ่านไปแล้ว                                                                     แสดงความแน่ใจ  (ไม่แน่ใจ)  ของผู้พูดต่อเหตุ                                                                     การณ์ที่เเกิดขึ้นแล้ว  (อดีต)

                                                                    Malee  is  late.  She  may / might  have                                                                     missed  the  train  this  moring.

must  +  have  +V3                                    แสดงความมั่นใจ (เป็นไปได้) อย่างมากในอดีต

                                                                    It  must  have  rained  hard  last  night.
