อุปสรรค (prefixes)

หมายถึงส่วนของคำที่มีความหมายในตัว เมื่อนำมาประกอบด้านหน้าของรากศัพท์ (roots) จะเพิ่มหรือเปลี่ยนความหมายของรากศัพท์(roots) ทำให้เกิดความหมายของคำขึ้นใหม่

อุปสรรค(prefixes) ที่พบบ่อย เช่น

ab	from, away from (จาก , ออกจาก)
ac, ad, af, al, ap, as, at	to, toward, against (สู่ , แก่ ,ไปยัง)
anti	against or opposing, opposed to (ต่อต้าน , ตรงข้าม)
co, col, com, con	together , with (ร่วมกัน , ด้วยกัน)
contra, contro, counter	against, opposing, opposed (ขัดกัน , ตรงข้ามกัน)
de	from, down from (จาก , ออกจาก, ห่างจาก , เอาออก , ลดลง)
dis	away, opposite from (แยก ,ไปจาก , ออกไป , ตรงข้ามจากการกระทำเดิม)

ex, e	out from (ออก ,ข้างนอก)
hyper	over , excessive (เหนือกว่า , เกินกว่า , เหลือเฟือ)
hypo	under , less than (ใต้ , น้อยกว่า)

inter	between, among (ระหว่าง , ท่ามกลาง)

sub	inner, lower than, less than , under, beneath (เบื้องล่าง , ต่ำกว่า , ข้างใต้)
super	above, greater than, better, more than (เหนือกว่า , ดีกว่า ,มากกว่า)
