    คำ adjective ที่ลงท้ายด้วย y ให้เปลี่ยน y เป็น I แล้วเติม  er  เมื่อเป็นขั้นกว่า และเปลี่ยน  

      y เป็น I แล้วเติม est เมื่อเป็นขั้นสุด เช่น                   

                                   happy    - happier than  - the happiest          

                                   easy      -  lovelier than   - the loveliest

                                   lazy       -   lazier than      - the laziest

                                   ugly      -  uglier than       - the uglier
